Wide-format digital graphic with a bold orange background featuring the blog title "Summer in the 90s, Jack’s on the Move & I Fixed a Toilet!" in large, dark purple text. A simple sun icon appears in the top left, an open book icon is in the top right, and a cartoon toilet icon is placed in the bottom right.

It’s only been about a week since my last update, and while that one leaned more on the heavy side (Ghost’s health has really been a tough one), I wanted to keep this one a bit more lighthearted. So here’s what’s been going on in my world lately.

Jack’s Journey Hits 30,000 Words

Let’s start with something exciting: I’m making solid progress on my book. I’m about 30,000 words in, and things are starting to heat up for Jack Griff, our main character. He’s off on a high-stakes quest with his long-lost Army buddy, Byron, and I’ve got a good feeling about where this next chapter is heading—both figuratively and literally. The action’s about to really kick into gear, and I can’t wait to see where it takes him.

Oklahoma Summers & Championship Wins

Speaking of heat, it’s officially summer in Oklahoma. We’re already hitting the 90s—and it’s only going to get worse from here. It’s the kind of heat that makes walking to the mailbox feel like a workout.

But there’s something else hot in town—the Oklahoma City Thunder just won their very first NBA Championship last night! I’m not even a basketball fan, but come on… that’s cool.

I Fixed a Toilet and Felt Like a Hero

In other “adulting” news, I fixed a toilet. Yep, nearly 40 years on this planet and I finally tackled my first flush valve replacement. Was it hard? No. Am I still irrationally proud of myself for doing it solo? Absolutely. I may not own the place, but I still felt like a home repair hero for a day—next up: something electrical (kidding, probably).

Ocrevus News: Covered 100%

Here’s some more unexpected good news: for whatever reason, my insurance has decided to start covering my Ocrevus infusions 100%. I’m still kind of in shock. Normally I’d be staring down a $5,000–$6,000 out-of-pocket bill, but not this time. I’m not asking questions—I’m just going to be happy about it.

Disease Modifying Therapies for MS are expensive, no matter which one you choose, so I am going to count this as a win.

Range Days Are Calling

We haven’t made it out to the range in a while, and I think it’s time to change that. It’s always been our happy place, right up there with Disney World. A day of target practice and a week of cleaning and lubricating all the guns sounds like just the kind of reset we could use.

Ghost’s Still Hanging In

As for Ghost… he’s doing the best he can. The medication isn’t working quite as well as everyone hoped, and I’m not confident they’ll be able to safely anesthetize him to look into his airways. It’s heartbreaking, but we’re starting to prepare for the possibility that we may have less time than we hoped. For now, we’re giving him all the love and snuggles we can.

Embracing the Mayhem

That’s life lately—messy, unpredictable, a little sweaty, sometimes emotional, but full of stories worth telling. Between the words, the wins, the wobbly flush valves and the wonderful mess of it all, we’re still here. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
