With Kristin gone for the week, I decided it was the perfect time to dive into a new project—and what better way to spend the quiet evenings than building some new wall décor for my office? This week I’ve been working on the LEGO Milky Way set (31212), and while I expected it to take me all week, I ended up finishing much faster. The truth is, when it comes to LEGO, once I start, I just can’t stop.

Why I Chose the LEGO Milky Way Set

LEGO has been creating more sets designed for adults, especially in the LEGO wall art line. These builds focus less on play and more on creativity, patience, and display value. The Milky Way galaxy set caught my eye because of its incredible design and the idea of turning LEGO into framed artwork for the wall. (Let's just state the obvious, it's awesome) With over 3,000 pieces, it promised both a fun challenge and a finished product I’d be proud to hang in my office.

Building the Galaxy Brick by Brick

The detail in this set is amazing. The swirling blues, pinks, and whites really capture the look of the galaxy. Each tiny piece adds depth, creating a three-dimensional effect that feels more like a painting than a toy. What I love most is that once complete, the set becomes a true piece of LEGO office décor—a unique way to showcase both a love of space and a love of building.

Challenges Along the Way

That said, I’ve noticed something while working on this build: handling the tiny single-stud pieces has become more challenging as my multiple sclerosis (MS) progresses. These little bricks require fine motor control, and it’s a reminder of how much MS can affect even everyday hobbies. My fingers just don't work the way they used to. Still, finishing each section feels like a small victory. Projects like this are rewarding not just because of the end result, but because they encourage me to keep pushing through challenges to enjoy the things I love.

A Finished Piece of LEGO Wall Art

Today, I placed the final pieces and stepped back to see the galaxy in full. The finished build is stunning—the colors pop, the spiral arms look alive, and it feels like more than LEGO. It’s wall art I’ll proudly hang in my office, a reminder of both the beauty of our galaxy and the joy of completing something brick by brick.

The LEGO Milky Way wall art set is more than just a creative project—it’s proof that even when challenges get in the way, there’s still value in holding onto the hobbies that bring you happiness. Every time I look at it, I’ll remember not only the build itself but also the effort it took to get here.
